Stormy Kromer has been making these now-classic hats since 1903 on Michigan's upper peninsula. Originally designed as an alteration to a ball cap that kept flying off George "Stormy" Kromer's head while on the job as a railroad engineer. The lace-adjustable ear flap was added to help cinch it on, and it still works as intended all these years later. This hat has become such a staple style that you can spot a Kromer from clear across a lake and send over a how-ya-doin. From the Stormy Kromer website: 'To get your size, measure comfortably around your head where your cap will sit, with a tape measure. Take that number in inches, divide by 3.14 (pi) and round up to the nearest eighth. This is your cap size. See the chart for size conversions.'
